This week I read Who Was Blackbeard by James Buckley. The book was set in 1717 Philadelphia. At this time, Philadelphia was one of the largest cities in the American colonies, and it was owned by Great Britain. Philadelphia was on the Delaware River and its port welcomed ships from Europe. However, in the fall, many of those ships didn't make it to their port. "The few that did told tales that shocked and frightened the English colonists in and around Philadelphia." pg. 2 Pirate ships were creeping near by.
I don't understand why the pirate ships chose to sail near Philadelphia. The more I think about it I feel that the pirates may have gone there because the ships had so many good on them. Maybe the pirates wanted to steal all of those items. I don't think it was right for the pirates to take things that weren't theirs.
