This week we read more from Sharon M. Draper's realistic fiction novel, Out of My Mind. In this part of the book we read that Melody was so happy because she, her mom, and her team were going to compete in Washington D.C. for the big trophy! However, when they got to the airport, they learned that the entire team left Melody behind. When they went to check in, Mom learned that all the flights were grounded because there was a snow storm in Boston, Massachusetts. They learned that the rest of the team got breakfast together and went to the airport early. Because they got to the airport earlier, they were able to grab the last flight out. Melody's dad was so mad that he punched the wall and hurt his hand. At the end of the chapter Melody said, "The morning started out like crystal, but the day has turned to broken glass." pg. 261 In the end, Dad told Melody that her team earned 9th place and an itty bitty trophy.
I'm confused why the team would leave Melody. Why would they do that to her? I don't understand how they could do that after all the hours of practice they put in to preparing for the competition. I think that Claire had something to do with it because she has made many comments about Melody being on the team.

This week we read more from Sharon Draper's realistic fiction novel, Out of My Mind. Melody tried out for the Quiz Team. When she first entered the room, Mr. Dimmings questioned why she was there, but Catherine stood up for Melody and explained that by law she was allowed to participate. Later on, it was revealed that Melody got every single answer correct. However, Claire still felt the need to make a comment after Mr. Dimmings said that Melody was on the team. She said, " ' But...but...we'll look weird!" pg. 190
I think that Claire should mind her own business because she shouldn't be worrying about Melody. I think it's not okay that Claire constantly makes fun of Melody. I think that she is jealous of Melody because Melody has proven that she is smarter than Claire. This week I read more from Out of my Mind by Sharon M. Draper. In this chapter, Mr. Dimmings, the social studies teacher, gave the class a test to test their knowledge and see whether or not they could be part of the Quiz Bowl Team. Everyone did well, but Melody was the only one to get all of the questions correct. Instead of being excited for Melody, Mr. Dimmings said, " ' If Melody Brooks can win the first round, then my questions must not be difficult enough!' " pg. 155
This made me feel hurt because I know how that feels. When I read this, I felt bad for Melody because she deserved praise for her good work. I don't think it was right for Mr. Dimmings to make that comment. This week i read out of my mind the quote i picked was melody just got a new medi-talker so she can `talk to her mom, dad, teachers to.now can the teachers hear her talk on the meid-tallker?
This week i readout of my mind the quote is melody was so happy to have a sitter '' This reminds me of when my aunt had baby and he love to play .
While reading Sharon Draper's Out of My Mind I wonder why Melody has Cerebral Palsy. I know that we went over it in class, but I still don't understand why that has to happen. I don't understand why God would choose to do that to someone; why he would choose to make it where someone can't walk or talk. However, I know God gave her the ability to think. Thinking is important. I know Melody is a character in a book, but I also know there are many people that suffer from Cerebral Palsy just like she does.
I wonder why the doctor, Dr. Hugely, would suggest that Melody's mother put her in a home so she and her husband, "can get on with your lives without her as a burden." pg. 25 I don't understand how he could say this to Melody's mother. How could he think that Melody's mother or anyone's mother would be okay with just sending their child away. |
