I continued to read I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic by Lauren Tarshis. in chapter 8 it starts off with George realizing that the engines were shut off. George saw a group of men, wearing tuxedos and puffing cigars, laughing at something that was happening on the well deck. When George looked over he saw young men with poor looking clothing,..."pelting each other with balls of ice, roaring with laughter like kids having a snowball fight." pg.42. It is explained that the Titanic struck an iceberg. People did not seem to panic; they thought the ice was fun.
I don't understand why people were not panicking when the Titanic hit the iceberg. I don't understand because I would have panicked and immediately gone to the highest point of the boat to avoid sinking first. I think they are going to go from laughing to crying.
